A discord bio template is a layout, not a caption. You want a header, a few blanks, and line breaks that still look like a card after Discord saves the profile. About Me is 190 characters. Nitro does not enlarge it. Custom status is a different box (128 characters) sitting next to your name. Display name is 32. If you paste a 12-line unicode mural, Discord will chew the bottom off and leave you with a broken frame.
I built the blocks below to copy. Open User Settings, then Profiles, then About Me. Hit the copy button on a card, paste, type over the blanks. If the editor complains, delete a divider before you delete the joke. A box-drawing line is not free decoration. It costs the same as words.
Character limits that wreck fancy layouts
About Me: 190 characters, including markdown, emoji, links, and newlines. Custom status: 128. Pronouns field: 40, which is why you can stop repeating they/them in the bio if you already filled that slot. Server nicknames are 32.
Markdown works in About Me: bold, italic, strike, spoilers, links. Emoji counts too. A full frame can eat a dozen characters before you type your name. Long URLs are how people blow the cap without noticing. Put a link last if you must use one, and accept that the closer might have to go.
Compare that with other apps if you are recycling a line: WhatsApp bios sit at 139, Instagram bios at 150. Discord is the awkward middle, with the extra twist that line breaks are the whole point of a template.
When to paste a new one
Change the About Me when the facts change. New main. New timezone after a move. A username swap that would make the old handle look like a typo. After you join a server you actually care about, because mods click profiles before they hand out roles. An empty About Me reads like a fresh account. A filled template reads like you meant to show up.
Do not rewrite it every night because you are bored. That is what custom status is for. A bio that flips hourly looks twitchy, and the only person screenshotting it is the friend who never forgets.
People open profiles in the evening, on weekends, during voice, and when a join request pops. Set the thing before you ask for roles, not after you have been lurking for a month. If you want a rotating joke for raid night, steal from the gaming statuses or the Discord hub and park it in custom status instead.
What ranks versus what gets copied
Search results for this keyword love density. Pages dump 80 templates with cathedral frames and “name / age / height” cards that would need 300 characters. Those pages rank because they look complete in Google.
What people actually paste is shorter: four to six lines, a couple of fields, maybe one dry line so you do not look like a form. If your display name is already long, drop the frame first. Ranked pages also mix custom-status jokes into bio roundups. Different slot. Your status can change after a weekend session. Your About Me should still make sense next to a new pfp next month.
If a template does not sit under 190 before you type your real handle, skip it. Fill-in blanks are optimistic. “____” is four characters. Your username is not.
How to keep the line breaks
Use the copy button. Highlighting the card like it is a Google Doc often grabs a single wrapped paragraph. Paste into About Me and you should see stacked lines. If everything collapses, copy again.
Fill blanks with short answers. “currently: ranked anxiety” beats a sentence. Discord keeps the newlines you paste. It will not invent them if the clipboard handed it HTML.
Generate a plainer line
Need a sentence to drop into a frame? The bio generator will spit one out. Trim it, then paste it into a template that still has room. Sleepy server energy lives on sleep statuses. If your whole personality is dry, sarcastic statuses will match better than another sparkle border.
